Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been formally charged with multiple crimes, including rape and human trafficking, along with two others, and they will face trial in Romania.

Judges previously cited the fact that the Tates were able to use their resources to leave the country as a reason for their detention, but they were later released and returned to their home in Romania.

Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested on December 29 along with two other suspects while Romanian forces investigated them for alleged sexual assault and exploitation.

Now that they are facing trial, Romanian prosecutors have confirmed the charges brought are human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women.

Initially arrested as part of an organized crime investigation on December 29, 2022, the Tate brothers spent several months in jail before being released in late March.

Andrew, Tristan and the two female suspects are all still under house arrest and on trial on charges of human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang, Reuters reported.

Prosecutors have identified six women claiming to be Andrew Tate’s victims. Their case alleges that Tates groomed women to produce on-demand pornography, which was used to promote the webcam business.

How long will Andrew Tate’s trial last?

The trial start date is yet to be confirmed. Before that, the judge must check the case file and has 60 days to do so. The BBC reported that the trial is not expected to begin for several more years because it is a complex case and Tates has stated his intention to deny all charges.

While awaiting trial, it is unclear whether the two brothers and two women who were also charged will be placed under house arrest.

How long has Andrew Tate been in prison?

Andrew and Tristan Tate spent three months in prison after being detained by the Romanians on December 22. Their jail time was extended by a month several times after being denied bail multiple times. This meant Tates spent four months in prison.

Under Romanian law, suspects can be detained for up to six months while investigations into their actions are ongoing, so Tates could theoretically spend another two months in jail before being released. released or sentenced.

Andrew and Tristan Tate still under house arrest?

Since May of this year, the Tate brothers have been under house arrest. On May 19, 2023, the brothers were sent home for two months, with a further 30-day extension following a court decision on the same day.

Tate reacted to the news on Twitter, saying he was “not told why” his stay was extended.

He wrote: “Today I was ordered to be under house arrest for another 30 days. “I wasn’t told why. 3 months in the dungeon, now 3 months at home. The police guard my house, if I leave, they will take me back to the dungeon. I haven’t had a single day of free time this year.”

They were granted a 30-day extension of their house arrest on July 18.

How long could Andrew Tate spend in prison?

Under Romanian law, the Tate brothers could face up to 10 years in prison for adult trafficking. Tates has denied all charges of human trafficking, rape and sexual exploitation.

However, they could face more time if convicted of multiple crimes, especially rape. Rape in Romania can result in up to 18 years in prison.
