A long time ago the court ordered OSP to release Cecilia Dapaah’s account and return her confiscated money but her account was frozen by OSP. The judge previously ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case because it was brought out of time. The Special Prosecutor’s Office took multiple actions again to freeze her account. This major development was made by OSP after complying with a court order. Last week, the High Court in Accra ordered OSP to return Cecilia Dapaah’s money ($590,000) that was confiscated from her home. Additionally, the Accra High Court also ordered OSP to release her bank accounts at Prudential Bank and Societe Generale. However, it is believed that Cecilia Dapaah’s account has been frozen. See the following sections and read more details.
Cecilia Dapaah’s Money
Previously, the Office of the Special Prosecutor compiled a judgment and order from the Accra High Court to unfreeze her bank accounts and return the cash confiscated from her home. But the Office of the Special Prosecutor has again been directed to freeze bank accounts and investments on September 5, 2023 over suspicions of corruption and moral turpitude crimes related to origin and ownership of large sums of money. Meanwhile, OSP froze her bank account and investments, confirmed through a statement. Move on to the next section for more details.
The official statement from the OSP said, “The Office of the Special Prosecutor has complied with the judgment and order of the court of the Accra High Court dated August 31, 2023, by releasing the closed bank accounts Cecilia Dapaah’s tapes and investments. OSP also returned the cash he confiscated in the presence and consent of her and her attorneys.” The prosecutor argued that there were several reasonable grounds to support his decision against Cecilia Dapaah, “following the high court’s judgment and order as well as OSP’s compliance with the judgment and order said, OSP invoked its statutory powers under Section 38 Part 1 of Act 959 and regulation 19 (1) of LI2374 by directing the freezing of Dapaah’s bank account with effect from 5 September 2023.”
The NPP politician’s bank account was frozen following a burglary in which more than $1 million was stolen from her home. The prosecutor believes that this money is damaged property, so the confiscation and freezing order needs to be confirmed by the court. Keep stable.
