How (and Why) to Post an Instagram Collab

Posting collabs on Instagram is different from just tagging someone in your Instagram post.

Instagram has a feature that allows you to post with your collaborators. Instead of tagging someone in your next post, you can add them as a collaborator and have the same post show up on both of your feeds.

Here’s what you need to know about Instagram Collaboration and how to use it.

What is Instagram Collaboration?

Instagram Collab is similar to a tagged post but instead of just appearing as a tag, the user appears as a co-author. The biggest and most important difference is that using the collaboration feature will post to all collaborators’ feeds. The contributor’s username will appear at the top of the post so it looks like all of you posted it.

Instagram Collaboration can be used for any type of content, from a professional photo shoot to a silly skit you do with a friend.

  3. Select what you’ve collaborated on and want to post, then tap Next in the top right corner.
  4. Apply any necessary edits and tap Next in the upper right corner. If you’re not satisfied with Instagram’s editing options, you can check out other free photo editing software.

  6. Tap Tag people. You can still tag people as usual before or after you add a collaborator.
  7. Click Invite collaborators.
  8. Enter the name or username of the account you want to tag as a collaborator.
  9. Choose your collaborator(s).
  10. Post your content.

Once you post your content, it’s the contributor’s responsibility to accept your invitation so that it appears on their feed as well. If they decline or don’t respond to your invitation, the post will appear like a regular Instagram post on your feed.

Can you invite multiple collaborators?

Instagram updated its Collaboration feature in 2023, so you can now invite up to five other accounts to collaborate. When this feature first appeared, you could only invite one other person.

This gives users more room to credit everyone who may have worked on the content in the post or Story.

What makes collaborating on Instagram so useful?

Collaborating on Instagram saves your collaborators the time and effort of creating their own original posts. Instead of posting themselves, all they have to do is accept your invitation and the post will appear on their feed as well as yours.

Another reason Instagram Collaborations are useful is because they combine the engagement a post receives from both accounts. If two collaborators post the same content to their own accounts, each post will receive their own likes, comments, and shares. However, if two accounts post their content as a collaboration, they will share all the likes, comments, and shares their posts receive.

Instagram Collab’s shared analytics is something you can’t achieve just by tagging someone. While the tagged person can repost the post to their story and hopefully drive some of their own followers to interact with the post, there’s nothing more direct than an actual post to the account. their account.

You can use Instagram Collaborations as well as other strategies to maximize your Instagram reach.

Why should you use Instagram collaboration?

You should use Instagram Collabs if you are someone who uses Instagram to post shared projects. Collaborating on Instagram goes a step further than just tagging someone and allows you to post your collaboration to both your Instagram feed and the feed of the person you collaborated with.

That makes Instagram Collaborations a great way to boost your analytics and reach a larger audience than you could on your own.

You should also use the Instagram Collaboration feature just to give credit when it’s due. If someone else has helped you with content through photography, editing, acting, or otherwise, you should add them as a Contributor for their hard work. It’s a kind and respectful way to say you appreciate their help.

Let’s collaborate!

Collaborating on Instagram makes it easier than ever to create content with friends. With just a few taps, you can publish your posts on five different accounts and reach thousands of people. So it’s always a good idea to try out this feature.
