There aren’t many major changes affecting Apple TV users with the upgrade to tvOS 17. (There’s a lot new in iOS 17, of course.) One is the revamped Control C — a welcome change indeed. Another new feature is the ability to use an iPhone or iPad to find a lost Apple TV remote.
Apple, of course, is no stranger to finding things. Its “Find My” feature has helped find lost devices for years. And recently, AirTags has made it easier than ever to track — and find — almost any non-Apple device thanks to trackers the size of a quarter.
What you’ll get with the new remote is something in between. Not as good as finding something with an AirTag. But it also doesn’t cost you any extra money, which is nice.
Here’s how to find a lost Apple TV remote in iOS 17.
Lose your Apple TV remote
This is kind of obvious, but it’s worth saying. If you haven’t lost your Apple TV remote — also called the Siri Voice Remote — you don’t need to find it.
Don’t look for a remote control that hasn’t been lost. You’ll just look silly.

Use your phone to find your lost remote
If you’ve lost your Apple TV remote — and it’s bound to happen, since it’s still a little flimsy and slippery — here’s how to use your phone to find it.
Step 1: Open Remote app on your phone. You can reach him inside Reflector (just search for “Remote”) or use the u shortcut Control center. (Swipe in from the top right corner of the screen.)
Step 2: At the top of the Remote app, you will see or Select TV, or your active Apple TV hardware. Anyway, select this and look for the remote search option. Select it and it will start the process of actually finding your remote.

Step 3: This is where the real work begins. Move a bit and you’ll see the viewfinder change Far, Nearor Here as you move closer or further away from the remote control.
The whole thing evokes memories of that classic Sesame Street clip.

That’s all. Unfortunately, it doesn’t get any more faithful than that. If you’ve ever used an AirTag, you’re used to better directions and distance, which tell you with much greater certainty how close you are to a missing device. AirTags also have an audible chirp option — the remote does not.
It’s also worth repeating that none of this is in the Find My app, which could probably make a little more sense.
The bottom line is that if you’re really worried about losing your Apple TV remote (and also want to make it a little easier to grab), consider a case and AirTag. But this new feature in iOS 17 is a good backup — and it’s free.
