An unnamed Danish Twitch streamer has been fined more than $1,000 as the Danish gambling regulator cracks down on illegal gambling sites.
Gambling is becoming more and more popular on streaming sites but also more controversial. This has prompted streamers like Dafran and Adin Ross to turn to Kick for gambling.
Twitch itself has tried to crack down on unlicensed gambling, especially in the United States, banning several sites popular with streamers and sponsors.
Now, an unnamed Danish live streamer has been fined more than $1,000 for gambling on an unlicensed site in the country.
Twitch streamer fined for gambling ads
In a report released on August 30, the Danish gambling regulator “Spillemyndigheden” revealed that it had fined a Twitch streamer for illegal gambling.
Spilemyndigheden says the streamer advertised gambling sites without a Danish gambling license, which is illegal.
This led to the Danish police and authorities determining that the streamer had “broken the law”. They fined the anonymous streamer 10,000 DK, or $1,500 USD.
But streamers worry that this case could set a precedent for gambling advertising on Twitch, as “this is the first time the Danish Gambling Authority has reported a live streamer in the school.” illegal advertising of gambling”.
Furthermore, gambling streams are a source of controversy for both streaming platforms and the streamers themselves. Recently, famous streamer DNP3 revealed that his online gambling activities made him “seriously addicted to gambling” and “completely depressed”.
In related news, Twitch also said that it bans gambling sites with CS:GO skins on the platform.
