There’s a packed schedule of film and TV entertainment coming to Netflix in September. The new streaming series offers action thriller Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Oscar winner Michael Keaton in the drama based on 9/11 events and Agatha Christie’s classic detective films.
You’ll also see the return of several beloved TV series, an LGBTQ-based spy anime, a gripping reality TV show, and a new horror series from Mike Flanagan to binge on. Fall begins.
1. Agatha Christie’s The Crooked House (2017)
Coming to Netflix: September 1
Language: English
It’s very difficult to mess up a classic Agatha Christie detective story, and having an all-star cast makes it practically impossible. Glenn Close, Christina Hendricks, Julian Sands, Terence Stamp, Gillian Anderson and Stefanie Martini add to the scenery in this classic telling of one of Christie’s most beloved stories.
There’s no surprise in the premise: a wealthy patriarch has been murdered and we need to find out who’s responsible. You won’t find the rotund and regal Hercule Poirot, but the film’s spy turned private investigator Charles Hayward (Max Irons) will take on duty as a super detective determined to find the killer.
2. House Party (1990)
Coming to Netflix: September 1
Language: English
One of my favorite movies as a teenager (I even bought it on VHS), The Adventures of Kid & Play got me hooked on hip-hop while horrifying my parents with all the cursing and sexual innuendo. Take a trip back in the time machine and see the tunes, hairstyles, fly girls and wise sayings as Kid rushes out of the house for the party (and night) of his life .
Reginald Hudlin’s film is a true classic and there’s a reboot in the works at New Line Cinema. Look out for scenes of young Martin Lawrence stealing.
3. Q Force (Season 1, 2021)
Coming to Netflix: September 2
Language: English
Fan Archer looking for a new, gay-friendly animated spy series, look no further than Q-Force. Created by Michael Schur (the man behind Parks and recreation And Good Place) and Sean Hayes (Will & Grace), one of the features of this animated show is that all the agents are of LGBTQ origin. Q-Force features some excellent voice talent, including David Harbor, Gary Cole, Patti Harrison, Sean Hayes, and Wanda Sykes.
4. Value (2021)
Coming to Netflix: September 3
Language: English
Worth will be released to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the tragic 9/11 attacks, featuring a stellar cast including Michael Keaton, Stanley Tucci, Marc Maron and Amy Ryan. It will analyze the events through the eyes of attorney Kenneth Feinberg, a lawyer who fought for victims of 9/11, oversaw the compensation fund, and its importance.
Produced by Obama’s Higher Ground production company, Worth looks like a heavy-handed but empathetic look at how the events surrounding the Twin Towers attack affected so many people, including the people not directly involved.
5. Money Heist (Season 5 – Episode 1, 2021)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htqXL94Rza4
Coming to Netflix: September 3
Language: Spanish (English Subtitles)
The first half of the final season of Netflix’s most-watched foreign series (recently challenged by Lupine), Money Heist is a great psychological trip. If you’re a fan of the film, you’ll know what to expect as the film reaches its thrilling conclusion, but if you haven’t seen the fast-paced and intellectually challenging film then I challenge you to do the same. You have enough time to watch the previous four parts before entering the final phase, which will conclude with part five, part II in December.
6. Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali (2021)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1bt9F0BmPg
Coming to Netflix: September 9
Language: English
The clip above is footage from a rare 1965 interview with Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali. This closely guarded documentary by Kenya Burris examines the relationship between two of the most influential African-American figures following the assassination of Martin Luther King.
The IMDB the synopsis reads: “From a chance meeting to a tragic outcome, Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali’s extraordinary relationship cracks under the weight of mistrust and changing ideals.”
I can’t wait to see this!
7. Kate (2021)
Coming to Netflix: September 10
Language: English
Netflix Originals has found some intriguing female movie leads (I’m looking at you Old Guard) and Kate seems like the next worthy addition to the streaming giant’s catalog. Kate stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim’s former girlfriend) as the title character.
Kate is an old-fashioned criminal mercenary with an ax to grind, but there’s a catch: “After she’s irreversibly poisoned, a ruthless criminal agent has less than 24 hours to exacts revenge on her enemies and in the process forms an unexpected bond with the daughter of one of her previous victims.”
Kate is directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (The Huntsman) and also stars Woody Harrelson and Michiel Huisman (the second, more bearded Dario Naaharis) from Game of Thrones. Where do I sign?
8. Metal Shop Master (Part 1, 2021)
Coming to Netflix: September 10
Language: English
I’m not a fan of reality TV shows, even though I love tattoos and there are a billion different tattoos to look at. However, I will be stuck in Metal Shop Masters. I like the sparks flying from the welders on metal, the giant medieval-style face shields, and people trying to make strange, strange things while trying not to burn themselves to death. die. Hosted by comedian Jo Koy – a very funny man – there will definitely be thrills, excitement and fire in this hot competition.
9. Sex Education (Part 3, 2001)
Coming to Netflix: September 17
Language: English
The hilarious antics at Moredale High School continue into its third season, delayed by a coronavirus-related hiatus. Horny teens (and the always awesome Gillian Anderson) navigate life, love and lust in the show’s smart but scandalous fashion. If you haven’t seen it yet, be prepared to laugh in gleeful horror and cry with empathy, often in the same scene.
Sexual intercourse was an explosion.
10. Midnight Mass (Part 1, 2021)
Coming to Netflix: September 24
Language: English
Welcome to the Crocket Island community, an isolated location that I’m sure has less than stellar reviews on Tripadvisor. A new priest comes to town and all hell breaks loose (both literally and figuratively), with miraculous events mixed with horror scenes (of course, there are also candle-bearers go). Created by Mike Flanagan – the man who brought us the excellent Haunting of Hill House – and featuring the disgraced Matt Saracen, Midnight Mass is sure to attract attention.
