xQc revealed interest in acquiring The Guard’s Valorant team

Popular content creator Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel has revealed that he is considering acquiring the Valorant squad that plays under The Guard’s banner. The team secured a spot in the VCT Americas tournament after winning Ascension.

Riot Games has offered former players of The Guard the chance to retain the spot they won in the VCT Americas tournament, provided they can find “a suitable candidate organization.” .

The announcement comes after Riot faced backlash from the Valorant community over its initial decision to remove The Guard’s position from the tournament after the organization failed to meet a deadline to agree with the Team Participation Agreement. “We acted too quickly in making our initial decision, quickly realizing it was a mistake, and your response has made that clear,” said Leo Faria, Riot’s Global Head of Esports. on September 1.

Interest in the former Guard players, whose contracts were terminated at the end of last month, is understood to be high. The team is guaranteed two years of competition in the VCT Americas, after which they will be relegated to the Challenger division and must qualify again.

Speaking on his stream, xQc revealed that he is thinking about signing with the squad.

“I’m thinking of buying The Guard from Valorant, even though it will be very expensive,” he said.

When asked why he didn’t sign a contract with the Counter-Strike 2 roster, xQc noted: “I don’t think I had enough time to set up the whole structure before it started. Everyone needs to have adequate structure.”

xQc sets its sights on Valorant esports again

This isn’t the first time xQc has publicly admitted interest in having its own Valorant team. In March, he even entered advanced talks with the Turtle Army, a second-tier team competing in the Challenger League.

Negotiations eventually broke down, with the players accusing xQc of “ghosting” them just as they were about to sign their contracts. This prompted the streamer to issue an apology, who admitted to being “embarrassed” by the issue. “I understand that during that period I should definitely communicate more,” he noted, offering to pay the players a whole month’s salary.

xQc is expected to face stiff competition for the team’s signature, with recent rumors suggesting G2 Esports and FlyQuest are also in the race for the team.
