The world’s leading video platform is making big changes to how ads work, but YouTube users aren’t happy with them.

On September 6, YouTube announced major changes to the way ads work with many modifications to existing features, while giving creators fewer options.

Going forward, starting in the coming months, creators will only be able to choose to place ads before or after videos. Additionally, there will no longer be options for pre-roll, post-roll, skippable, and non-skippable ads.

Live video will also have a 60-second countdown before the ad pops up, giving creators the option to skip the ad if they want.

YouTube users protest “unnecessary” changes to ads

In a blog post, Google explained that it made these changes to “expand best practices across the creator community and optimize creator revenue,” but the response was not positive. very extreme.

The Twitter/X account ‘YTAnalytics’ provided a list of planned changes and there was a lot of backlash in the comments.

“Most of these changes seem really unnecessary,” said one slam.

Elsewhere on X, more users weighed in, mocking Google for giving creators less control while others remained confused by the ad changes in the first place.

“It’s nice because we have less control. Just what we asked for. Well done YouTube. As creators, we want to have strict rules and limits,” one ridiculed.

“This sounds counterproductive,” another wrote. “It seems like something that would have a more favorable impact on the company than the creators – that’s not the direction you want to head in if you want to retain your creators.”

We’ll have to wait and see how these decisions play out and whether Google decides to double them down or ease up on multiple revisions at once.
